New! Amazing color change! As of our last check with the RHS registry, STK orchids of Thailand hasn’t yet given this very special clone its own name. Nonetheless, it offers a virtual kaleidoscope of colors as each flower opens and matures, making the prospect of a mature plant with several flower spikes a real spectacle of hues. The first parent is already one half Bc. Richard Muelller (and one half Rlc Waikiki Gold), so taking it back to that parent yields a vigorous easy growing and frequent blooming orchid. But when the first flower opened, we were surprised that it was a starry lavender flower with deeper colors and patterns in the lip since both parents are yellow. Apparently, some of the genes from lavender species way back in the ancestry of Rlc. Waikiki Gold were being expressed. However, a few days later, the color started to change as a yellow base color began to develop at the same time the lavender began to fade. In about a week’s time, the flowers are usually a peachy shade and after another week light yellow, while the stronger colored lip patterns remain. In hot summer weather, the end result is more of a cream color with the same contrasting lip, but the plants can bloom on every new growth throughout the year so you will get all possible effects as your plant grows and blooms. The flowers easily last 8 weeks, so as we alluded to earlier, the future, multi growth specimen this orchid will become will have clusters of several flowers per growth, each at a different stage and offering a truly amazing look.
