Chysis aurea ‘Orange’ x Maritza Bielecki ‘KVL’ (2.5” pot 1-2 years to bloom)
Product Description
New! This exciting new cross may be the first to combine four different species of Chysis into one plant. The pod parent is well known as the most awarded Chysis hybrid ever, with at least 16 American Orchid Society awards to date. The flowers are a wonderful blend of colors. The addition of Chysis aurea will add to the number of flowers per inflorescence and lengthen it just a bit to make sure the blooms stand out above the developing foliage. If you are not familiar with these fascinating orchids from Mexico, Central and northern South America, the flowers emerge with new growths in mid to late spring and last from four to six weeks. After flowering the growths go on to form club like pseudobulbs with thin strongly ribbed leaves. In winter most of the foliage is shed before the flowering season arrives. They like plenty of water while in active growth followed by reduced watering from about December through April when they should dry somewhat in between. Intermediate to warm temperatures suit them best but they will tolerate winter minimums of 50-55F at night. With proper care Chysis can become showy specimens with a number of spikes each carrying six to a dozen colorful flowers. We are offering seedlings in their second year out of flask and many of them may be large enough to make their first flowers in spring of 2025. Don’t miss out on your chance to own this groundbreaking new hybrid that mixes some of the hidden gems of the New World tropics!
